Session 3 – Reconciliation

Programme Prayer

Begin the Prayer with Sign of the Cross: “In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen”

Let’s take a moment in silence to be still and quiet and open ourselves up to whatever God wants to lead us to today.

We pray that this will be a happy, holy time for us all.

As we walk this journey with Jesus.

May the Lord be in our hearts, in our minds and on our lips.

Amen

Let us be still for a few moments.

Father God, you are always ready to forgive us, no matter what we do. Today we will be exploring God’s love and forgiveness in the celebration of Reconciliation and during Mass.

In order to make peace with each other, help us to be able to say a heartfelt sorry.

Amen

Can you remember what the priest says when he performs a baptism?

Discuss how, at times, we can make our parents unhappy.

What can we do to make the situation better?

Fill in the gaps below…

What does the parable of the Forgiving Father or, as it is sometimes called, the Prodigal Son tell us about God?

Can you find the request for forgiveness in the Lord’s Prayer?

Jesus said, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

Examination of conscience: quietly think through each of the following:

Have we hurt another person by saying unkind things?

Is there anyone we find it hard to speak to or tell we are sorry?

Do we thank God for all our gifts and talents?

Do we care for other people?

Have we told a lie?

Do we take care of our things and those of others?

Have we taken something belonging to someone else?

Do we care for ourselves?

Do we care for the environment?

Have we destroyed or damaged the property of others or something in the school?
