Session 1 – Gathering

Programme Prayer

Begin the Prayer with Sign of the Cross: “In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen”

Let’s take a moment in silence to be still and quiet and open ourselves up to whatever God wants to lead us to today.

Discuss with your family how you were given your names and how you were Baptised

There are special jobs that need doing in the church.

What needs to be prepared and who will do the jobs?

Think about this as we look inside our churches.

Liturgy

We gather together as friends of Jesus in the community in which we belong.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

We pray that this will be a happy and holy time for us all.

As we walk this journey with Jesus may the Lord be in our hearts and on our Lips.

Amen.

We light the candle to remind us that Jesus is the Light of the World.

Today we have been learning about the importance of names and how our Christian names are given to us at Baptism. God knows our names and calls us to meet and celebrate with our Christian family.

We looked at things you need to prepare for a party.

We have been thinking about our parish communities of Wallsend Churches, Our Lady and St Aidan’s, St Bernadette’s and St Columba’s and our beautiful parish churches.

A reading from the Gospel of St John

On the third day, there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples.  When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “Son, they have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.”  His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

Now there were six stone water jars. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the steward of the feast.” So they took it.  When the steward tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.”

The Gospel of the Lord

Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ

Let us all take time to think about what it must have been like to be present at the wedding celebration with Jesus.

Think about:

the excitement of those who were getting married…..

the concern of the stewards when they realised the wine had run out…

the trust Mary put in Jesus……..

how Jesus was prepared to help….

how this is the beginning of Jesus doing his Father’s work

how the disciples believed in Jesus

For our parents who took us to church to be baptised, we thank them for looking after us and for helping us to get to know Jesus.

Lord, hear us.

Lord, graciously hear us.

We pray for all who are baptised; that all Christians may grow in faith and be people who are compassionate and kind.

Lord, hear us.

Lord, graciously hear us.

We pray for ourselves, that during our preparation for holy communion, we will always try to listen during Mass and be the best we can be in following Jesus.

Lord, hear us.

Lord, graciously hear us.
